Why Not Treat Yourself To Some Spa Time?

Looking after your skin can be a pretty tiring process, especially with all of the different things that are expected of you when it comes to doing it right. It can be a pretty thankless procedure, and it can become really tempting to just say “to Hell with it” and not bother with a regime anymore. But instead of that, why not set yourself a treat every once in a while that takes the onus of you and allows you to relax in style while someone else does some of the work for you? Spa or beauty treatments can leave you feeling like a million dollars, but they don’t need to cost anything in that region.
There are a great many treatments you can get at a spa or beauty salon, and you can encourage yourself to stick to a good regime by outsourcing some of the work to these guys every once in a while and allowing yourself to be looked after. If you give yourself that little treat, you will develop your own little effort and reward scheme that pays off in no small way. Perhaps a face mask would be a nice way to unwind? They draw out impurities and leave the skin feeling as fresh as a daisy. An exfoliating rub can be good too – getting rid of dry skin that gets irritated all too easily. And there are plenty of other treatments you can get, all of which will leave you feeling decidedly relaxed.
It doesn’t even need to be expensive. If you have a spa or beauty salon near you, the chances are that they have regular promotions offering free or discounted treatments on certain days if certain conditions are met. Sometimes you will get a two for one deal – so bring a friend and enjoy the company as well as the treatment. It is well worth doing every once in a while – as a treat and as a reminder of the benefits of a good skin care regime.
Skin Care – Things To Avoid At All Costs

There is an amazing amount of money spent every year by men and women, boys and girls (and parents) who just want their skin to look as good as it can, and are prepared to pay well for the privilege. There is no question that a lot of this money is wasted, as people buy the wrong product, or buy the right product and use it wrongly, or even get both of those elements correct and then do something else that undoes all the good work they had just done. Doing it right is not an easy thing. It can be a quest that ranks up there with the search for the Holy Grail. But a few words of advice are worth keeping in mind.
Firstly, do not buy a product without reading in detail what it does. This is seemingly obvious advice, but there are so many people who purchase a skin care product and are appalled to find it does not work for them. They then belatedly read the packet and find it was for people with oily skin, and they are possessed of dry skin. No surprise it didn’t work, really.
Secondly, it is vitally important that you avoid at all costs any product that comes without the correct medical seals of approval. These differ between countries but one thing that remains constant is that the clinically tested products have the appropriate marks. If you try an unendorsed product, you should not be surprised if it does you no good.
Thirdly, do not expect a product to do all the work. It requires a little something from you, too. As often as not it will be simple – follow a good diet, drink water regularly, avoid extremes in temperature after use. And do not use another product on top of the first one without checking to see that they are compatible. It’s asking for trouble.
These are just three pieces of advice. You can probably think of a few of your own. The most important thing to remember is that if you look after your skin, it will look after you. It’s a two-way street.
It’s Not Effeminate To Look After Your Skin

There is so much information flying back and forwards in this day and age about what a man should be. Should you be a metrosexual, spending as long in the bathroom getting ready to go out as the most fastidious of ladies? Should you be rugged, caring not one iota about such things as crow’s feet, laughter lines and body odour? Should you be some kind of mix, proving your macho credentials while at the same time displaying a certain appreciation for the things that make you handsome and desirable? One sure bet is that whatever you do, you will attract some flak from someone, so you are better off pleasing yourself in the end.
This does not mean just allowing your appearance to do as it wishes, of course. But there is a way of following a male skin care regime that does not make you a perfumed dandy who wishes he had been born female – if that’s what you are scared of. You can show some appreciation for the looks you have been blessed with and not come across as vain. It’s a matter of measure and balance, and if you get it right you will reap the rewards in the form of compliments and more. And the first thing to pay attention to is your shaving routine. It’s not just about splashing on a bunch of cologne after you’re done, and holding in an anguished yell of pain, anymore.
Firstly, you should prepare your skin before shaving. There are several good pre-shave treatments out there, and their benefit is something you will appreciate if you have been shaving for a while. They allow the razor to slide over the skin with a lot less friction than if you just daub on the shaving foam – or gel – and have at it with the razor. As a consequence, you take hair off your face without removing a few layers of skin while you are about it. Then when that is done, apply a good after shave balm. This will cool the skin where there has been friction, and replenish the moisture that has been taken away. And after all that? Then you can splash on the cologne – but remember that even the strongest men scream in pain sometimes.
Skin Care Products – Caring for Your Skin, or Careless for Your Bank Balance?

There is a vast range of products on the market for people who want to get rid of facial blemishes and keep their skin looking fresh, clean and young. Some of these products really do work, and do the job for which they are intended. But it is always important to ensure that you get the right product for you, and to make sure that it is actually addressing the problem rather than masking it. In fact, this process can start when you see the product advertised. Certain give away words and terms can be very important in making sure you do not buy something that leaves you feeling like you have wasted your hard earned money.
You may well have seen ads for wrinkle cream, for example, which use the phrase “wrinkles appear reduced”. It sounds like a perfectly innocent phrase, and yet if you think about it, they do not say that wrinkles are reduced, do they? Why not? Because they aren’t. The wrinkles appear reduced because the active ingredient in the cream causes the skin to expand and stretch out where the wrinkles are. The actual wrinkle is no more reduced than if you had done nothing at all, which is why you need to keep applying the cream, and buy more when it runs out. No cream can actually reduce wrinkles, so it is a short term fix at best.
Another word to look out for is “can”. Very often you will be told that a product can have amazing effects. But this depends on a number of factors – factors which are essential in turning a “can” into a “does”, and these very factors can be inconvenient, expensive and in some cases downright impossible. Look out also for products which claim that in laboratory testing they proved to be far and away the best. Legally, the companies are required to include substantive proof that this is the case, and very often what transpires is that a small majority of people found that the product was helpful, within a laboratory sample in the low hundreds of people. Hardly conclusive.
Eat Right And Your Skin Will Reward You

There probably isn’t a person reading this who was not told by at least one adult during their childhood that eating junk food would give them spots. Maybe it was potato chips, maybe it was chocolate. Maybe it was pizza – which certainly used to be a popular one, and gave an extra depth of pathos to any “pizza face” jibes that got thrown around. The truth is that a bad diet can lead to bad skin, and that eating and drinking the right things can have big rewards when it comes to looking good on the outside. Eating the wrong things can have disastrous results, even if you wash twice daily and use all the most expensive treatments.
Firstly, it is true (up to a point) that too much chocolate will have an adverse effect on your skin. Refined sugar-based products do terrible things to your facial skin and do nothing to inhibit the production of excess oils. A bar of chocolate every so often is fine – everything in moderation, after all – but if you make a daily habit of it, and go beyond the one bar, you will soon see the ill effects. Caffeine is another thing that should be taken in moderation. Excessive caffeine – it is a diuretic after all – will cause your skin to dry out and will mean that you miss out on important nutrients.
So what should you eat? Well, fish is never a bad option. Ideally not coated in breadcrumbs, a bit of fish every few days will allow your skin to get the supply of oils that it needs in order to thrive. And if you pair that fish with some good vegetables – carrots and green veg like broccoli or spinach – you will get a good supply of Vitamin A, which helps keep the skin healthy. Vitamin E is an important contributor as well, and is present in nuts – specifically hazelnuts or almonds – which you can snack on when you get peckish. And if you drink water regularly, it will flush the system of impurities, meaning there is no need for you to get blemishes any more.
The Moment You Wake Up, Before You Put On Your Make-Up

Make-up is an essential part of many girls’ and ladies’ daily routine. It may be a case of a little bit of lipstick and some concealer and off you go, or it may be a more determined, more elaborate regime that requires getting up hours before work to make sure that everything is done to a T. But if you are one of those who feels naked without a decent covering of make-up, it is important to remember one thing – that stuff has to come off at night. All of it. As a preference you really should wear as little as you can, because while it may be a good way to show off your best features (and conceal those you’re not so fond of), make up stops your skin from doing some things it has to do.
Your skin, for starters, needs to breathe. That’s why you have pores. Without this necessary feature, your skin would clog up and you would break out in all kinds of blemishes. It also needs the space to keep itself cool, because if your skin reaches a certain point without being allowed to cool off it will begin to flush and look blotchy – something no amount of concealer can really hide. So if you can get away with a light dusting, do not go overboard and smother your skin. You will regret it. It is much, much better to allow one little blemish to go uncovered than to cause another several to spring up.
And at the end of the day, you have to take it off. There are so many reasons why, not least the dry-cleaning bill for your pillowcases if you allow them to become caked in make-up. But more importantly, if you do not allow your skin to be itself while you are asleep, you are simply adding more skin problems to the bargain. Sooner or later you will cause yourself problems that no amount of make up can conceal. And there is one final reason you should go easy on the make up – natural beauty wins out every time. You can ask anyone – the less make-up you wear the better you look.
Washing Regularly Is The Best Revenge

If you have suffered from skin problems, there is a range of solutions out there which contains some that will help you a little, some which will help you greatly, and some which will not help at all. Indeed, the wrong solution used at the wrong time can even make the situation worse. It is important to take into account exactly what the problem is, what is causing it, and to find out how best to tackle the problem. There is no advantage to dealing with things in a hasty manner, as although they may be causing you no end of annoyance, the consequences of a poorly-chosen treatment could take yet longer to shake off.
The one thing that is guaranteed to have an impact on the bothersome skin problems that effect us all from time to time is a well-planned washing regime. It may seem inconvenient, but spending ten minutes twice a day – once in the morning, once at night – taking care of things will have a much more lasting and positive effect than letting things build and then having to spend money on a “quick fix”. Quick fixes are only popular because people buy them out of desperation. They often do not have anything like the effect one would hope for or expect. And they can cause the skin to lose some of its natural positives, too. This is something that can be avoided if you take the time.
If you are washing your face as regularly as twice a day, it is best to use a gentle, natural product which does not interfere with the skin’s own natural defences. A lotion containing Aloe Vera or a similar natural product will keep your face clean without stripping it of the natural oils that protect your face from the elements. The more chemically-based cleansers have a tendency to strip these oils as a way of preventing acne or spots. But a certain amount of oil in the skin is vitally important when it comes to preventing redness and the blemishes which are caused by raw, unprotected skin.
Acne – A Painful And Irritating Problem

There are so many different problems that our skin can throw at us over the course of our lives, and it can seem dreadfully unfair when you finally get one to clear up and another instantly descends upon you. One of the most common problems – and one that has an unfortunate habit of persisting beyond adolescence – is that of acne. Caused by a blockage in the hair follicles on your skin, acne vulgaris is a problem that affects an amazing 85% of teenagers. Even the ones who appear to be completely fresh-faced often have problems with acne – and those problems are of a kind that can have an effect far beyond the cosmetic side of things.
There is little you can do to prevent acne if you are predisposed to it. A family history of acne is a likely sign that you will suffer it, especially as you go through puberty. But even if your adolescence is long past, it can crop up again – or even for the first time – well beyond your teenage years. In some cases, it has been thought to be a side-effect of stress. But one thing that can be guaranteed to bring on a case of acne is an imperfect skin care regime. And it is in the skin care regime that the best solutions to acne are found.
The chief cause of acne, especially in adolescents, is over production of the skin’s natural oil known as sebum. This is why it appears wherever there is a high concentration of sebaceous glands. Along with dirt, excess sebum provides the ideal conditions for acne to grow. So washing your face regularly is an excellent way of attacking acne on its own terms. Not only will you cut down the amount of excess sebum, but you will prevent the accumulation of anything that might become acne given the right conditions.
Acne is also known to become inflammatory. In these cases, a prescribed or store-bought anti-inflammatory medication can help a great deal, by stopping the acne from becoming itchy and painful. Consult a doctor before embarking on any course of medication, though.
The Doctor Knows Best – Sometimes

If you are one of the many people who has problem skin, then you have in all probability spent a lot of time – and money – trying to correct the problem. Certainly when the problem is a new one, it is easy to get unrealistic hopes about the products available on the market which insist that they are the only one you will ever need, that they will catch and cure your problem and enable you to go about life without any further concerns. But the difficulty with mass marketed skin care solutions is that they are just that – mass marketed. Over the counter remedies for problem skin have the unavoidable drawback of trying to be all things to all customers – often with the result that they do not do much for some.
In such a situation, if you have found that mass marketed skin care products have failed you, there is a solution that some people don’t give much thought, but which can be hugely beneficial, and it is a quite simple one – ask your doctor. If you have a problem with your eyes, you will go and see an optician. If you have a problem with your skin, you could go and see an epidemiologist. But in the first instance, your General Practitioner can often diagnose and help you treat whatever is causing your problem skin. As a GP, there is little that they have not seen hundreds of times before. So you can tell them what is going on, and they can point you to a solution with a minimum of fuss.
This will often mean a prescribed solution. It may come as a bit of a shock to have something prescribed for a situation that many people seem to deal with without anything more drastic than a trip to the supermarket. But often the problem will be something more specialised than the mass market really addresses. And this can mean taking oral medication, or using a lotion prescribed by your GP. If either of these is the case, the advantage is that the prescribed solution will work more quickly – and more completely – than whatever you might find in the Skin Care aisle at the supermarket.
Let Nature Do The Work – Skin Care The Simple Way

There is a lot of money spent every year by people who want their skin to look as clean and fresh as possible. Whether in order to attract a potential suitor, or just to look as presentable as possible for a public-facing job, there are a lot of reasons to make sure that you keep your skin in top condition and free of any blemishes. Particularly when it comes to facial skin, there are so many things that can detract from a fresh, clean appearance, and consequently a lot of different things one needs to consider when shopping for skin-care products. From acne to oily skin, from spots to blackheads and all the other things that nature can throw at you, it is worth looking at the solutions that nature provides to all these problems.
Washing your face regularly is an absolute must. But many of the mass-produced soaps and face wash lotions that are available on the general market contain chemicals that make them quite harsh for everyday use. By washing the skin with chemically-enhanced soap you can strip it of its natural oils and leave yourself looking, quite literally, washed out. There is a fine balance to be struck, and arguably the best approach is to purchase a natural skin cleanser for your face. Many products use aloe vera, a gentle natural ingredient that allows your skin to be cleaned gently, without giving up its natural oils.
The advantage to using natural skin cleaning products is that they do not contain anything that has been scientifically constructed. While scientifically produced facial cleansers do the job for which they are purchased – removing blemishes and tackling impurities – admirably, they have a tendency to be quite harsh if used overly regularly. And if you find that you need to wash your face more often than once a day, they can leave you with quite raw skin, which is painful to maintain. So looking for natural compounds is a good way of being kind to your skin in the long term while not ignoring the short term need to keep it clear of blemishes.
